Chanel Rouge Noir Absolutement coll.

Today I have the Holiday 2015 Chanel Rouge Noir Absolutement collection: Rouge Noir 18 (with red CC on the caps and red top and sides of the box), Le Top Coat Lamé Rouge Noir and Rose Fusion 757.
It is of course a tribute to the famous Rouge Noir 18 - read its story HERE!

Rouge Noir 18:

Here you see the red CC on the caps and red top and sides of the box. Chanel boxes normally are black on all sides and the CC is in white on cap and lid.

Chanel Rouge Noir 18 is just as vampy and gorgeous as it always have been – read the entire story about this famous polish right HERE!
It is fairly opaque in one coat, but you see it in two coats.

Rose Fusion 757:

Chanel Rose Fusion 757 is not a true duochrome, it is a metallic with shimmer – yet it does have shifts between a warm-toned sand/silver/grey with shifts towards a violet purple, the shimmers are green and purple. Unfortunately, it’s not brush stroke free, and that annoys me, why does Chanel go on making those brush-stroky metallics… The first coat is very opaque, but you see it in two coats.

Le Top Coat Lamé Rouge Noir: 

Chanel Le Top Coat Lamé Rouge Noir is a topper, a transparent purple base with gorgeous golden flakies. I am showing it in one single and easy coat over Rouge Noir 18, no fishing was necessary – I LOVE it!!

Chanel Vamp 18 - 180.116 the current of the shimmer versions - swatches and comparisons

Chanel Vamp 18 – is only sold in USA where it is part of the standard colors and has been since 2003, this is the current of the 2 shimmer versions.

Vamp has been sold in 3 versions, and this is the one available today with the number 180.116 on the box, and it is “Made in France”.

There were however also a version “Made in the USA” with the number 780.010 on the box, and it slightly different – see comparisons below, and see a full swatch post HERE.

Vamp 18 with the number 180.116 on the box is a gorgeous wine red with a brown hue and a beautiful shimmer.

This is 2 easy coats, no top coat, and the dry time is quick!

Chanel Vamp 18 - 780.010 the first of the shimmer versions - swatches and comparisons

Chanel Vamp 18 – has only been sold in USA where it is part of the standard colors and has been since 2003, this is the FIRST of the 2 shimmer versions.

Vamp has been sold in 3 versions, and THIS is the “Made in the USA” version with the number 780.010 on the box from 2003 to late 2007/early 2008, and it is slightly different from the Vamp 18 sold today on chanel.com with 180.116 on the box, I’ll show that one later today.

Vamp 18 with the number 780.010 on the box is a gorgeous vamp wine red with a slightly more purple hue than the Vamp 18 sold today – see comparisons below and read the entire story behind the 5 x 18 in THIS POST.

Chanel Rouge Noir 18 - first released in 1994 and was part of the Vamp Triology collection

Chanel Rouge Noir 18 – was first released in 94 and it became part of the Vamp Trilogy: Rouge Noir 18, Rouge Argent/Metallic Vamp and Rouge Tres Noir/Very Vamp.

Rouge Noir 18 is a permanent shade in Europe and Vamp 18 is a permanent shade in USA – both are beloved classics.

Rouge Noire is a dark, vampy blackened oxblood red.

The formula is so easy to work with, the dry time is good and the finish is amazing.

This is 2 coats without a top coat.

Chanel Rouge Noir 18 - Vamp 18, 5 x 18, The Vamp Triology, comparisons and much more

During the last months I have been trying to collect as much information on the 5 x 18 from Chanel as possible, a development leading to the Chanel Rouge Noir 18 and Chanel Vamp 18 as we know them today - 20 years later!

And since our theme in this Artsy Wednesday is “nerdy”, I thought this story would be a good choice, because the pure joy of being able to post this – probably only makes sense to a true Chanel nerd…

1994:

The first Chanel Rouge Noir – Vamp 18 was released.

The two first bottles in this photo are the original old ones "Made in USA" and "Made in France" - the last bottle is the new bottle, like it looks today!

And viewed from the back - notice that the "Made in USA" had the polish name on the back...

The original Rouge Noir "Made in France" in the middle is a little bit lighter, the other two are basically the same, but the Rouge Noir sold today has a stronger pigmentation - click to enlarge.

The "Made in the USA" version had both names on the bottle and the "Made in France" version was called Rouge Noir 18, without the word Vamp.

It became a huge success, the first year alone the sales surpassed the $ 1 million mark, and no nail polish had ever before sold like that.
When it allegedly was worn by Uma Thurman in the movie Pulp Fiction, it added to the craze.

It even has it's own page on Wikipedia.

- it lead to the "cousins"...

- soon (probably not until 1995) Very Vamp and Metallic Vamp were released (I presume as US Limited Editions)  – and the 3 polishes was known as The Vamp Triology Collection.

Apparently Rouge Noir - Vamp 18 was discontinued late 90's, but I do not know for sure if and when - nor if Rouge Noir 18 "Made in France" also was discontinued.

2003:

Vamp 18 (with shimmer) is released and only sold in the USA.

The first version was “Made in USA” and had 780.010 on the box, it is slightly lighter and has a slightly thinner in the formula than the Vamp 18 we know today.

This version was sold from 2003 until late 2007 or the beginning of 2008, thank you so much Kate C. for this piece of the puzzle.

The second version, the one sold today, is “Made in France” with 180.116 on the box, but it is still only sold in the USA.

I hope some of you found my nerdy post at least slightly interesting...
When I am truly interested in something I love to dig out as much fact as possible. The Rouge Noir/Vamp search has brought me around the world through the internet, where I met a lot of other caring and sharing Chanel collectors, who believes in sharing information for the mutual benefit of us all.
Having found all the polishes has cost me a fair amount of persistent stalking and money, but is a complete dream-come-through, and I enjoyed every minute of it!
