See the manicure on day one HERE.
On a
holiday I can make a manicure last 10+ days (of course a little less at home) with a minimum of tip wear. Normally
I would have filed away the tip wear and I could have added an additional coat
of top coat if a minor repair was needed – but I didn’t this time, I wanted to
see what it would look like after 10 days!
There
are of course some very basic rules, you have to follow, and then there are
tips and tricks involved, and you have to experiment, to find what works best
for YOU!!
If you
would ask me to give advice, it would be…
virker bedst for DIG!!
The nail has grown, but the tip wear is minimal after 10 days. An evil staircase "bit" my pinky ;) Neglen er vokset, men slitagen er efter 10 dage minimal. Et "ondt" gelænder bed min lillefinger ;) |
01. When
you file your nails, make sure that the free edges are completely smooth and
without filing bits under the nail. My Leighton Denny crystal file files
without leaving any “shavings” under the tips, but if your file does, you can
use a shiner-buffer on the free edge until it feels completely smooth and
pleasant to touch.
Also it’s better to file the very corner of the
square tip a tiny bit to round it a little, so that they too are pleasant and
very smooth to touch, that gives a lot more wear for me at least.
skinnende uden at tage noget af) indtil neglekanten føles helt afrundet of
behagelig at røre.
ekstra holdbarhed for lakken.
02.
Degrease you nails with rubbing alcohol and let it dry before you add a base
coat.
Affedt dine negle
med propyl akohol (fås bl.a. i Matas) og lad neglen tørre før du lægger
grundlak.
03. A
base coat that works for me – might not work for you, so you have to
experiment. I have ridges, and my favorite BC is the Nail Tek Foundation 1
ridge-filling base coat.
04. The
same goes for the choice of polish brand – for me NO other brands give me better wear
than China Glaze. OPI comes next, but all others I tried gives tip wear pretty
fast.
Det same gælder
holdbarhed end China Glaze.
05.
Apply two coats rather than one – and REMEMBER to swipe the free edge with
polish.
Læg hellere 2 lag
lak end et – og HUSK at stryge lakken hen over negletippen (neglens afslutning).
06. Make
sure to clean any “mishaps”, because if polish touches both nail and the
skin/cuticles it’s more prone to peel and chip. Keep a tiny “gutter” along
cuticle and sides. I use a thin, square eyeliner type of brush (actually from a
kit of nail brushes from Ebay). I dip it in polish remover and clean up. You
can use a cotton bud, but I prefer the brush that never removes more than
wanted.
Sørg for at din
07. Use
a GOOD (preferably quick drying) top coat, again remember the free edge, for me there is no other than
Seche Vite. Remember to apply with a good drop on the brush, it needs to be
applied generously.
08. Do
not push your cuticles more than absolutely necessary during the period you
want your manicure to last, and don’t get in contact with the polished area of your
nail. Push gently and do not use a pusher of metal (I actually never do any longer) – use a rosewood stick or even better a
“Hoof Stick” from Leighton Denny.
Do NOT shower, do the dishes = have your hands in water before a manicure, I let them be out of water at least 3 hours, if I'm unpolished. Less if I do wear polish. The nail absorbs water, and when it dries it gets smaller and makes your polish peel off!
And finally the basics that we all know, but maybe needs
to be reminded of – og til slut de ting vi alle ved, men måske har brug for at
blive mindet om:
10. Do
NOT tap your nails on any kind of surface – and do NOT use your nails as tools…
11. Do
NOT pick your nail polish nor sides of nails/cuticle areas.
12. Keep your hands and cuticles moisturized Use hand lotion or creme and of course cuticle oil/creme.

12. Try to get rid of ANY bad "nail-habits" you might have!
Below you can see a handy makeup purse with a lot of room (Gillian Jones) that I use for nail stuff on travel. I haven't yet need it, but it's nice to be prepared.
Ja, det er længe, som jeg lige skrev til Sosa07ac.....
SletThanks for the tips. They are going to be really useful.
SvarSletThank you, Paulina, I'm glad you found them useful!
SletInteresting to see your routine. I confess I do still use a metal pusher, but not very often. :)
SvarSletThank you Karen, I also find it interesting to see what other people do :)
SletThanks for writing this up! It's useful to read tips on how others keep their mani lasting a long time. :-)
SvarSlet~ Yun
Thank you, Yun, I'm glad you liked it :)
SletTak Christina, ja, man må prøve sig frem :)
SvarSletThanks for the tips! Def gonna put these to use! Also, I tried adding the top 10 members to blog but its not counting any other visits. /= How did you do yours?
SvarSletThanks, GoingtotheShowing, I'm glad you found them useful. About the counter, well I simply followed the instructions. But People need to be logged in via Google to be counted. I just signed in and now I'm on it too. There was an instruction so that you can make the counter NOT count yourself too...
SletThe commentator counter counts comments regardless if people are logged in or not...
I hope that helped :)
Great tips!!! :)
SvarSletThank you, Lydia :)
SletFantastic, informative post, Maria! Thank you for sharing. I find that even utilizing all the tips you mentioned above, I almost never get more than 2 days wear without massive chipping. It's just the way my nails are... *sigh* Although admittedly, I could stand to moisturize more than I do as of late. That and wrapping my tips with polish- I find it time consuming so I rarely do it! Lol.
SvarSletThank you, The Lacquer Tracker, well body chemistry probably plays a massive role, and maybe you haven't found the for you right products yet... - or maybe I'm just lucky LOL
SletI never get more than 4 days of wear with Seche Vite, but with other topcoats my manis last way longer! But then again, I wash my hair every day...
SvarSletWell, that's really what it comes down to: finding the products that work for you - and I ALSO wash my hair every day, and on vacations like this 10 day project, I treat myself with long and warm showers to kick start my old body out of the worst pains in the morning LOL
Sletfantastic post, thank you :-D
SvarSleti do almost all the things you've said... but to wear polish for more than 3 days is science fiction for me :-(
Thank you, nail crazy, I'm glad you like it!
SletFor me, the most difficult thing is to stop using my nails as tools... :-(
SvarSletI like this post, many useful things :-)
I used to use my nails as tools, Raggio di Luna, trust me, you can learn it LOL - and thanks :)
