Chanel Sugar Gloss 173 and Abricot Gloss 175 were released for summer 2005. They are what suddenly became a novelty in the polish world in 2014: Tints – BUT these are 9 years older, and I have some that are even older – so this is another good example of how often Chanel have been trend creators.
You can use them on their own as a discrete fresh-up of the nail in one coat, or more – or you can use them as tints over another polish, preferably white.
But I don’t have ridges and slightly stained nails, so for me they are best over white. On my index I’m showing 3 coats of Sugar Gloss and on my middle finger 3 coats of Abricot Gloss – no top coat. On my ring finger and pinky I used them as tints over white, and I also used a black striper and top coat on these two fingers. So - isn't it fun to think that Chanel made tints looong before it became "in"?
I wonder what Elena has for us today, shall we have a look?

I'm not sure, but I think that 'my little Lancôme sheer tint' with bubble gum scent might be even older ;o). May be...
SvarSletKind regards,
Elena
Maybe it is - but as I wrote I also have older tints from Chanel, some older than 2002, but exactly how old, I don't know!
SletI just researched: those juicy vernis for sure are from 2004 or older :o).
SletKind regards,
Elena
Hahaha - but then my older Chanel tints are older ;)
SletYeah, definitely trend setters, the Chanel brand. I've discovered lately that the Tints do great things when layered on a silver holo! Have you tried it?
SvarSletThey are indeed!
SletWow, that sounds interesting, I'll have to try that one day, thanks for sharing!!!
I'll post a silver holo painted in tints soon so you'll be able to see :)
SletI look forward to it!!
Sletfinally some nail art, we haven't seen that here for too long :D
SvarSleti really don't like these polishes, they look like waste of time to me... but love what you did with them :D
how would told that the chanel has done it 9 years before opi ;)
You are right about the nail art :)
SletWaste of time is a harsh remark - to me it's a piece of nail polish history, but I guess you also think that the OPI's are a waste of time then?
maybe it sounds harsh, but i really don't like this kind of polishes... and you know what, i'm super happy that they are actually some polishes that i don't like or want ;)
SletThat can indeed have it's advantages :)
SletYour nail art looks great! I really have to try something like this with the sheer polishes I have :)
SvarSletThank you so much - yes, it's quite fun to play with :)
SletThese look really good :-) Wow ahead of their time for sure ;-)
SvarSletI've got the OPI Tints but as I don't do nail art, I'm struggling with ideas of what to do with them! Lol one day! ;-)
LOL - this is easy, just use the bottle brush and dab it on the white nail. You don't need the black stripes, you can just let the colors blend....
SletThat Apricot does look rather nice
SvarSletTe name sure is fitting :)
SletThis whole mani looks really fun. Both colours work well together and that nail art is fitting the product.
SvarSletThank you so much Vedrana :)
SletWhat a pretty fruity nail art! Kisses
SvarSletMarghe
Aww, thanks a lot :)
SletNot sure if I like the glossy polishes, not really my thing I believe! But Maria, your nail art is great, looks so artsy! Please do more often!
SvarSletLOL - thanks a lot - well I need to get back in track, I suspect I will one day!
SletLovely manicure! :-) Tint nail polishes are perfect for "filling" some small spaces after you've done black stamping on white nails :-) That's exactly what you've done, the only difference is that you used "hand-made stamping" :-)
SvarSletI don't believe in narrowing down the use of any material into just one thing, I can think of a lot of other ways to use tints :)
SletBut yes - I used a black striper...
I love the nail art! Abstract and pretty! The tinted polishes have a nice squishy look when worn on their own.
SvarSletThank you so much Julia :) Yes, you are so right, squishy and also somewhat juicy/fruity :)
SletI have some Maybelline tints from before 2000.
SvarSletI found that around 1998/99 a lot of brands came out with transparent colours: eg Maybelline, Pupa here in Italy, of course Chanel with the "Cristallin" collection, and possibly many others :)
Thank you SO much for this information, that's very useful!
SletNow I wonder who really was the first to bring a tint on the market...
Ohhhwwww I am loving this nailart..!!!!Sowww fruity.... :-)
SvarSletI am so happy to hear that - thank you so much!!
SletChanel is a trend setter, no doubt! :) I LOVE your creation *_* I envy you a bit, your a master of nail arts :D
SvarSletAww, thank you, you are sooo sweet :)
